Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric Dentistry

Our office is a place where children feel at home and start their journey for a lifetime of good oral health.

The dental needs of young children are very specific. Children have special emotional needs as well. Our practice has the experience and compassion to tend to both aspects. We build trust and confidence with our patients while educating parents and caregivers.

Dr Renee McGough DDS Pediatric Dentist

OUR DOCTOR

Renee McGough, DDS is a specialist in pediatric dentistry with advanced training in children’s care. She graduated from the University of Texas Dental Branch in 1992 and completed a hospital based residency program there in Pediatric Dentistry in 1994. She participates in continuing education each year to ensure she delivers the best possible care to her patients.

Just as a pediatrician cares for a child’s medical needs, a PEDIATRIC DENTIST does the same for a CHILD’S oral health.

What To Expect

During your child’s first visit, we will take time to answer your questions and start to build a relationship. Please take a moment to go over the 3 steps to ensure you and your child are better prepared for your appointment.

Before Visit

Before your child’s first visit, make sure their teeth are brushed and you have completed the new patient form for a quicker check in.

1

During Visit

You will experience a comfortable environment as parents and children are in the same room. Your child will receive quality dental care from a dentist trained in child psychology.

2

After Visit

You will receive a home dental care package equipped with the tools necessary for maintaining your child’s dental health and a follow-up visit will be scheduled.

3

Cosmetic Dentistry

While composites and resin modified glass ionomers have been available for many years, the answer for large areas of decay has always been the stainless steel crown.

These restorations are very strong and durable, and in many scenarios still the best answer to severely broken down teeth. In attempts to be more life-like in appearance, pediatric dentists and manufacturers have made strip crowns of composite, stainless steel crowns with facial cutouts, stainless steel crowns with bonded coatings, and other options that tend to crack and chip. If you are worried about “ugly silver crowns”, I am trained in the placement of zirconium crowns for children. These restorations are able to overcome some of the aesthetic issues of the past.

McGough and McGough WaterLase MD Dental Laser

WaterLase MD

Dr. Renee McGough utilizes the WaterLase MD for laser dentistry.

WaterLase MD

Dr. Renee McGough utilizes the WaterLase MD for laser dentistry. This laser has hard and soft tissue capabilities.

This technology allows her to practice minimally invasive dentistry. Soft tissue procedures for pediatric procedures would include frenectomy, frenuloplasty, exposure of clinical crown for orthodontic needs and others. Hard tissue procedures would include bonded resin “tooth colored fillings”. Due to the precise nature of the laser, very tiny preparations mean less “good” tooth is lost in the process for stronger, healthier teeth. The laser uses energized water droplets to remove decay and most children do not require any anesthetic (mouth numbing) for simple fillings.
